As mentioned in my self-introduction blog post, I hope to become a more confident speaker and possess the ability to communicate effectively with people. Throughout the module, I believe part of these goals has been met. Brad challenged me to participate in class and answer questions even if I am not 100% certain. He gave me opportunities to speak up and take initiative, reducing my fear of speaking out loud.
Brad also had several group work which required the class to work with different people. The most tedious group work would have to be the technical report. In the process of doing the technical report, I realised that communication is very important as it helps the whole group to cooperate and coordinate with one another, ensuring that tasks are assigned and completed efficiently and effectively. In order to achieve good communication, messages have to be understood and get across easily.
I still have a lot more to work on, such as expressing my thoughts into words properly. The use of this blogging portfolio is a good way for me to do so. By revisiting what I wrote and editing it, I am able to see the mistakes made and what I would like to be changed. I believe this is a habit I should adopt, not just for Effective Communication, but for myself as well.
As the trimester comes to an end, Effective Communication has given me so much more than just being able to write well and speak confidently. In lessons, Brad often encourages students to answer and ask, creating a positive learning environment. The time spent with Group 5 was also enjoyable even though I did not get a chance to work with every single one of them.
I was fortunate enough to be in this class under Brad and the rest of Group 5. Sadly, the trimester has come to an end, but I will never forget the moments spent in class.

Dear Glenna,
ReplyDeleteI am glad that you took away so much from this module. This skills we learnt from this module are indeed useful for our time in SIT and after we graduate. I feel that many of us are also more out spoken now with the help of this module. Let us strive to always improve ourselves and to adopt a positive learning attitude.
Cheers,
Zhouzhi
Thank you, Glenna, for this detailed reflection. I like the way you have addressed the goal you had set for yourself and that you see yourself as having been encouraged to 'come out of your shell' thanks to the various module tasks and the hands-on class activities. It also heartens me that you want to continue working on your comm skills, and you have clear thoughts on how to accomplish that. Good for you!
ReplyDeleteBest of luck as you move forward in your learning journey!
